![]() ![]() ![]() Regarding the Question: “Why don't they ban item lock cards in general?”Īs annoying as it is, the competitive Pokemon TCG scene has no problem with item lock as a whole. This means that design wise, they need to limit themselves, in order to not create a Trevenant 2.0.įor the same sake of argument FogP was banned over Vileplume: You don't want to live in a world where every future grass evolution has to be tuned down, in order to avoid it being too strong in the Expanded format. Unlike Standard, where the rotation will eventually regulate the format itself, cards can stay in the Expanded format for years and years.10 Expansions from now, Wally will still be a part of Expanded, one could argue even 20 expansions from now (given that they'll probably start with cycling out the BW era and than have Expanded be XY onwards). Regarding the question: „Why don't they just ban Trevenant”: I think this may be meant to simplify the Pokémon Lab's work when it comes to designing new cards because they can go a little bit further with the abilities in stage 1 Pokémons without breaking the game with another Trev-like combo (I want to think that because the obvious thing to do was to ban Trev like when they banned Archeops instead of Maxie's hidden ball trick). Trev is still a pain and I honestly fail to see how having one turn of items and then be locked for the rest of the game is not awful, specially when they say they are focusing on fun and improving the gameplay with this bannings) and it would always have potential to be exploited by future cards released. Wally IS a problem (the biggest one we have?. What you need to understand here is that this bans respond to the IRL game, and are usually a product of the current meta game, PTCGO devs have no power to decide which cards get banned. I think there are bigger balance issues with zoroark/exeggcute decks and the night march decks than wally.
